A 91-year-old care home resident has relived a favourite memory from her past.

Doris Grant, who lives at Carrington Court Care Home in Hindley told her carers that she used to enjoy going to the beach in her younger years and feeling the sand between her toes.

Staff took Doris to Southport recently where her wish came true.

She was overwhelmed with happiness after the experience and the care home team took a bag of sand back home.

Wigan Council deputy leader and cabinet member for adult social care, Cllr Keith Cunliffe, said: “This is a brilliant example of what a positive impact connecting people to the things they love has.

“Through The Deal, adult social care staff in Wigan borough have permission to be more creative.

"It’s great to see care homes making people’s wishes come true.”
