A BARBERSHOP in the town centre has come up with a novel idea to help children cut their teeth at reading.

Rogues & Rascals, on Bradshawgate, has launched the idea where children can get a cut without paying the £8.50 fee - instead reading a story out to their stylist.

If the youngsters show up with a book in their hand ready to read, they will be offered the free cut.

Owner Martin Langan said: “With having a four-year old-son myself, I know how important encouraging reading is for kids.

"This is just a very small way to help the local kids and parents over half term.

"In this day and age of video games and technology, you kind of forget the simple joys of watching your children read a book.

"Kids can bring their school reading books or a book of their choice and our barbers are looking forward to hearing a variety of tales.”

The offer is running for children under the age of 12, on Tuesdays from 10am to noon until August 23.

Rogues & Rascals opens 10am to 6pm from Tuesday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturday.
