THE community has pulled together to grow 750 square metres of poppies on land adjacent to Lilford Park and the guided busway in Leigh.

The project, which included Leigh Ornithological Society (LOS) and the Friends of Lilford Park (FOLP), commemorates 100 years since the First World War armistice and honours those who died on the battlefields.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) played their part by allocating the land where the poppy seeds were sewn.

The three organisations will manage the land and have praised Wigan Council for their support.
