FARMER'S daughter Ruth Parker who won a prize with her dad's old jeans has scooped another top award for quilt making.
In September 2005 the Journal featured a story about Ruth's success at the Festival of Quilts when she won a £250 prize for her creation Zipadeedooda', a quilt that featured a pair of jeans worn by her late father, Leigh farmer John Stafford.
This year artistic Ruth competed again Europe's premier quilt event at the NEC and came runner-up winning a £1,000 prize for her entry into The Quilter's Guild Challenge.
"I was also very privileged to be asked to have my quilt included in the Guild Collection at St. Andrews Hall in York," said Ruth whose motorcycle racing themed quilt "Sunny In, Sunny Out" was inspired by watching her husband ride his Triumph Daytona at Croft race circuit where one of the corners bears that name.
Ruth, whose father farmed at Walmsley House Farm, is preparing to start a course at Lancaster University where she will study photography with an emphasis on artistic uses of digital Imaging.
She hopes to integrate these with her Art Quilt work and teaching related adult workshops.
"I still aim to exhibit, but I need to produce a lot more quilts to fill the Derby rooms!" joked Ruth.
