LEIGH Miners Rangers produced a second half onslaught against bottom club West Bowling to secure a third win in a row.

Despite John Woods grabbing a hat-trick of tries and half-back Martyn Ridyard and Scott O'Brien always a threat, the Miners had to work hard to edge the first half before showcasing their attacking skills in the second.

Bowling were a gutsy side throughout and with Ricky Helliwell and Liam Martin showing real resilience, they gave the impression that they have the ability to climb out of trouble.

Bowling scored first when Gavin Buckley cut through for a try goaled by Lee Innes.

But the Miners responded when O'Brien sent Adam Higson in for the first home try and Ridyard added the first of eight conversions.

Minutes later Ridyard sent Woods skipping through for his first, only for Bowling to respond with the tireless Danny Murgatroyd crashing over. Although this was to be their final score, Bowling did ask further questions before Woods' second try, off a Ridyard pass, gave the home side an 18-10 interval lead.

The home side virtually secured victory when O'Brien intercepted on his own line and scorched clear for a try that set the pattern for the second half. From then on it was virtually a procession.

Aaron Gorton darted from dummy half for a try before Woods completed his hat-trick with a sparkling solo effort as he cut diagonally across the pitch to round the visitor's defence.

Simon Hartley grabbed his customary effort and sub Chris Coppell benefited from a Woods kick through. Mark Jones twice made breaks that Ridyard finished off in the final three minutes as the Miners brought up their half century.
