SWIMMING: Swimmers from Ramsbottom Rascals had huge success at the Central Lancasshire Championships and Age Group Gala at Manchester Aquatic Centre.

Ramsbottom swimmers scooped 16 medals in many different events with excellent performances from all swimmers.

Sixteen swimmers swam in the championship in the 50m pool.

Newcomer, nine-year-old Ben Crofts won a gold medal in both the 50m backstroke and the 50 fly with a silver medal in the 50m freestyle.

Matthew Jackson, aged 10, also won gold in the 50m backstroke with brother Tom gaining a silver in 12-year-olds' 50m fly. Chloe Evans won the 13-year-olds' 50m freestyle and came second in the 50m backstroke and 50m fly.

Will Salt, competing in seven events, won the 14-year-olds' breaststroke with a silver medal in the 14-year-olds' 50m fly and a bronze medal in the men's open 100m breaststroke.

Bronze medals were won by Josh Donohoe in the 12-year-olds' 50m breaststroke and 50m fly and Alex Cruice gained a bronze in the 14 year-olds' 50m freestyle.

Kathryn Williams also got bronze in the 12-year-olds' 50m fly.
