LEIGH RMI Ladies produced a vintage performance which led to champagne celebrations as they wrapped up the North West Women's Regional League Division 1 (North) championship with a storming 7-2 victory over Chorley Ladies.

It was an amzing perfomance against a team to whom the girls had suffered a 6-2 reversal in the Regional League Plate semi-final a week earlier, and the culmination of a daunting four games in eight days at the end of a rain-drenched season.

After the Plate exit, the girls powered their way to three successive victories, defeating Burnley Borrowdale 4-0 away, followed by a hard fought 3-2 victory against Penrith at home. They were left still needing at least a point at Chorley.

Leigh got off to a flying start with a goal from Mel Sumner in just 20 seconds. She went on to add two more, with another brace from sister Lou, bringing her season's tally to 45. Michelle Ryan added another and Rebecca Blackburn scored her first goal for the club.

RMI will now compete in the North West Women's Regional Premier League next season.
