A DOCTORS’ surgery offering a world class service has opened on Higher Folds estate.

The Leigh Family Practice based at 6, The Centre, Richmond Drive, brings a range of new services and the chance for patients to have a say in the running of the surgery which will offer minor operations, mental health services, pathology tests and the management of chronic long term conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.

Extended opening hours will allow patients to choose appointment times between 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to noon Saturday.

They will also have the chance to become actively involved through Patient Participation Groups.

Leigh Family Practice’s clinical director and lead GP, Dr Neil Forsdyke, added: “I hope that the new Higher Folds surgery will usher in a long-awaited world class primary care facility for the people of Higher Folds and its neighbourhood. Patients will have access to traditional family doctor and nurse-led services from early in the mornings until late in the evenings and on Saturday mornings too.

“In addition, the team will continue to expand the range of services available from this site, and to integrate this fully within the new build at Higher Folds in the next 18 months.

“Leigh Family Practice has a website that can be accessed at www.leighfamilypractice.co.uk that allows patients to access information regarding the Practice Team and the General Practitioners for all aspects of healthcare services.”

Estate MP Barbara Keeley said: “I hope that all of this will help to improve the health of people in Higher Folds.”
