AN unusual mixture of skateboarding and classical music will provide the backdrop to a fundraising concert being put on in Harpenden.

The Skates and Borders concert is being organised in aid of the skate park appeal and Harpenden in Bloom.

The skate park in Harpenden, which was officially opened last month, is still £13,000 short of funds. The town council is also preparing itself for next year's entry into the Anglia in Bloom competition, having received a silver award in this year's contest.

The concert is the brainchild of violinist Miles Golding who will conduct the musical evening which will in clude performers from Harpenden schools and the Harpenden Youth Orchestra.

Mr Golding said he wanted to put on a concert not only to benefit and entertain the community, but also to give young people the satisfaction of making their own contribution towards the popular skate park. He joined forces with his friend Peter Taylor, from the Harpenden in Bloom working party, and they decided to split the proceeds.

The concert takes place at Harpenden Public Halls on October 31. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children. For more information contact Harpenden Town Council on 01582 768278 or Mr Taylor on 07771 778033.
