Scooters boost cancer care charity

SCOOTER riders from throughout the region descended on the Botanical Gardens Club at Hindsford on Saturday for a charity fun event that ran 'All Day and All of the Night'.

Since 2005 the Shameless Scooter Club, based at 'The Gardens' have raised approx £500 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice, £600 for the Maples Care Home, over £800 for Macmillan Cancer Support. So far this year they have raised £500 for Macmillan again - the scooterists' chosen charity.

It was a real family event with an amazing turnout of machines all with their owners' personal stamp on them, many with incredible paint themes, some dedicated to their owners' music heroes, and Mod scooters.

Adults danced the night away with D.J. Doddy spinning his sounds.

Event organisers Michelle and Chris Barkley had a hectic day and were relieved their expected new arrival didn't put in an early appearance.

Hard-working Shameless members were delighted with the support they received from scooter enthusiasts from The Lazy Aces, Salford Knights, Liverpool Scooter Club, Bolton Spartans, Bolton Road Runners, The Vesparados, Warrington Scooter Club, Pogue Mahone, Ace of Spades, A57 and others for the charity fundraiser that was backed by Warrior Clothing, Warburton’s Bakery, Bank Holiday Records and the Botanical Gardens and photographer Dave Stanley.

Shameless member Sean Kevill said: "Would-be scooterists new or old are welcome at our weekly meetings held on Monday evenings at the Botanical Gardens, Tyldesley Road, Atherton.

"Members' ages vary from 17 to 50+, male and female, there are no politics involved, no subs to pay,but plenty of rideouts and parties.

"Shameless are proud to have raised a few thousand pounds now for charities."
