MORE than 500 people enjoyed a spectacular ‘Last Night of the Proms’ at Leigh’s Pennington Hall Park on Saturday.

Tyldesley Brass Band, under the baton of conductor Rob Taylor, raised the spirits with energetic renditions ranging from “Puttin on the Ritz” to “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Wigan born tenor, Alan Gregory wowed the crowds with his powerful performances of Nessun Dorma, Love Changes Everything and Jerusalem.

The event was organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and park’s officer Anne Cockram said: “This was our fifth ‘Last Night Of The Proms’ and the atmosphere was once again superb.

“This has become a real community event for all ages. It’s an uplifting social event that is now enjoyed by hundreds of people in Leigh.

“I’d like to thank local elected members for their support and Cheshire Fireworks for providing a fantastic finale. “ More than £170 was raised for the Mayor, Cllr Mark Aldred’s, Charity which this year is devoted to improving local funding for dementia services and meningitis awareness.
