A LEIGH junior school is going out on a high after celebrating an excellent Ofsted inspection report.
St Peter’s C of E, which will close at the end of the year, has been judged as good with some outstanding areas.
Head teacher, Mrs Pat Jolley, who has been appointed head of a new school, which sees the old one amalgamate with the nearby infants’ school to become Leigh St Peter’s CE Primary, said: “Everyone connected to the school is delighted.”
“Every lesson seen was judged to be good or outstanding. The behaviour of pupils was marked as outstanding as was parental involvement and also the care and guidance the school gives to pupils.”
Mrs Jolley, who has been at the school since 1997, said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed head of the new school which will open in 2010. We already have a group of parents, staff and governors working to make it a success.”
The new school will stay in the current buildings but will be a primary school on a split site.
work will begin to refurbish and extend the junior school, working towards everyone being on one site, but no-one yet knows what it will look like.
The nursery will remain where it is for now, then move into a new purpose built building with the rest of school by 2012.
The uniform will stay the same, apart from the badge, and a competition has been organised to design a new one.
