IF you know someone who goes the extra mile for friends, family or their community they could be in line for an award.

Nominations for the brand new Wigan Life Awards are being accepted until January 8 in time for a glittering Spring ceremony.

The council and its partners across the public services are looking for individuals as well as groups whose work improves the quality of life and well-being of local people, and who collectively make the borough a better place for everyone.

Already, judges have been delighted and moved by the entries received so far.

Alan Stephenson, chairman of the Ashton, Leigh and Wigan NHS Trust, said: “These community champions deserve recognition - and you can make that happen.”

There’s a nomination form in the current Borough Life magazine and at the wiganlife.com website. Forms can also be handed in at libraries and council offices.

Nominations need to include contact details for the person or group you have chosen, as well as your own details and the category of award they are being proposed for.

Council leader Lord Peter Smith added: “The borough’s public, private and voluntary sector agencies are working together to tackle major challenges. If you know of someone who deserves to have their hard work recognised, then don’t hold back. Let us know by nominating them.”
