Tributes to tragic Poppy

TOUCHING tributes have been paid to a pretty Lowton High School student whose sudden death has shocked the community.

Poppy Bracey died in hospital after police were called to her home in Broadwell Drive, Leigh, on March 1.

Lowton High School headteacher John Shanahan said: “Poppy was a lively, bright and friendly young person who was popular with both staff and students.

“She will be remembered for the care and consideration she showed to others as well as for her dry sense of humour.

“The school community has been deeply shocked by her tragic death and our thoughts and prayers are with Poppy’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

A police spokesman said: “At 7.30pm on Monday 1 March 2010, police were called to a house on Broadwell Drive in Leigh following a concern for welfare.

“Officers attended and a 13-year-old girl was taken to hospital, where she later died.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and the details have been passed to the coroner.”

It is believed students, who have left dozens of messages on line, are being counselled at school.

Messages on an Internet social networking site claim the youngster, who was in foster care, was being bullied.

Friend Laura Rampling wrote: “My gorgeous friend, love and miss you baby girl. In my heart for ever.”

Rachel Orrell West said: “RIP Poppy. We will all miss you, love you.”

Sue Higson added: “Poppy you are a Angel, hope you are resting in peace, and smiling down to your family and friends, who are missing you every day, God only takes the best young. You are in Heaven, and this must be hell for your family without you.”
