Old towels wanted

10:50am Wednesday 17th March 2010

NEWCHURCH WI has celebrated its 51st birthday with an appeal for old towels!

They will be collected by the group’s October speaker and will be turned into hammocks for rescued baby orangutans.

President Sylvia Brown congratulated the quiz team on reaching the county final in April and thanked Paddy Pouter for the display in Culcheth Library..

Speaker, Jane Schaffer, spoke on her interesting career change from teacher and headmistress, then Ofsted Inspector, to publishing - at the age of 60!

She began with her own work but has since expanded and has published other authors' writings. She was very frank about the pitfalls.

The competition “My Challenge at 60” was won by Jean Riley, with Trudy MacDonald and Kath Hanley second and third.

Dates for diaries include: March 24 – Easter Coffee Morning at the Parish Hall, March 25 – the monthly walk, April 7 – theatre trip and Mosslands Group Meeting.

The next meeting is at 7.30pm on April 14 in the Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome.
