Good Buddies will live as housemates in Atherton Sports and Social Club to raise funds for Derian House

A MAGNIFICENT seven volunteers are giving up contact with the outside world to live in a club concert room.

The “Big Buddies” will spend five days and nights as housemates at Atherton Sports and Social Club to raise money for children with life threatening illnesses.

Now they are appealing for sponsors and for the loan of sound and camera equipment to live stream life in the concert room to the club’s big TV screens.

The fund raising brainwave to help Derian house Children’s Hospice came from club manager, Sue Ashton, and the mixed bunch who move into the club on April 4 are Michelle Bleakley, 33, Lisa Nunen, 43, Marina Bolton, 65, Paul Miller, 45, Paul Hook, 30, Nick Youle, 21, and Mark Hempsall, 48.

They will be deprived of contact with others, mobile phones and laptops and will have no money, so food and drink will have to be earned through daily challenges sent in by Big Buddy, Jim Ashton, Sue’s husband.

They will have basic rations of beans, soup and bread but must earn anything else.

Contestant Paul Hook said: “It’s a good job we all know each other well. We will be sleeping in boxed off areas in the concert room. Everyone is staying very tight lipped about what is going to happen, but it should be fun.

“We had a trip to Derian House last week to see the marvellous work they do there. We hope people will come forward to sponsor us.”

Sue appealed: “Please sponsor our buddies for this five day event and help us raise as much money as we can for Derian House.”

If anyone can loan equipment they can contact Paul Hook on 07788 903003 or the club on 01942 888811.
