LEIGH fighter Jake Waterworth is making great strides in his chosen sport.
The 20 year-old took up Thai Boxing and has really impressed his trainer, Sandy Holt, who was undefeated Thai Boxing British and European champion.
Jake travels to Bolton Thai Boxing Club four times a week for training under Sandy's expert eye and guidance.
Sandy, who runs the Bolton town centre gym, said: "Jake's been training less than a year and to be honest I don't let anyone compete or fight until they have trained for longer than that.
"But Jake proved himself in a local inter club challenge and I spotted something special in him.
"Ninety per cent of the men, women and children we teach from the age of five to infinity don't fight or compete. But the 10% that do have to undergo extreme training!
"Jake won his first fight a few months ago in Liverpool and stopped his opponent in three rounds of a scheduled five. He then fought the other weekend at the Ikon Nightclub in Bolton and Jake won again with another stoppage in round three of five.
"I've now got a big test for him as I've been asked to take two fighters over to Cork in Ireland on September 11 to fight on an international bill.
"Jake's got a big task this time and it is probably a bit early in his career but I've got to say I have faith in him, just as he has in me. We are a good team!"
