CALLUM Flynn continued his fundraising campaign for the Bone Cancer Research Trust by baking a cake which was later decorated by Leigh MP and Shadow Education Secretary Andy Burnham.

Leigh Centurions head coach Ian Millward and Big Brother 11 contestant Corin, gave Callum heaps of encouragement as he baked the cake in the kitchen at Leigh Sports Village.

Pupils at Bedford High School, where Callum is studying, showed their support by baking cakes to be sold at their school.

Callum was diagnosed with osteocarcoma in March last year but has now been in remission for 16 months. He decided to get involved in raising awareness of the disease when he saw a Bone Cancer Research Trust leaflet during his stay in hospital.Callum has taken part in numerous events which been invaluable in raising awareness and providing funds for the Trust.

David Fisher, Head of Fundraising for the Bone Cancer Research Trust said: “This event is great in helping us to raise awareness of primary bone cancer and providing valuable funds for the work of the Bone Cancer Research Trust. The support we have received from Callum and his family and friends is helping to improve outcomes for primary bone cancer patients.”

On the back of the success of the big bake David and the Bone Cancer Research Trust will be holding another event next spring. Plans include setting up a regional fundraising group to support the work of the Bone Cancer Research Trust, of which no doubt Callum will be involved!

In recognition of his endeavour Leigh Sports Village provided free tickets for Callum to watch last Tuesday's soccer match at the village stadium between Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool Premier League reserves.
