Bird watchers flock to Pennington Flash at Leigh

PENNINGTON Flash will host a Big Bird Watch this Sunday to celebrate the bird life and importance of Pennington Flash and Lightshaw Meadows.

Activities include: a bird race starting at 9am; a 4.5 mile guided walk to Lightshaw Meadows starting at 10am and from 10:30am to 3pm there will be: bird Identification workshops for beginners, a display of birds of prey, nest box building plus willow weaving and a variety of family craft activities.

Stalls include the RSPB and local bird watching groups. Optics supplier, Focal Point, will feature a range of binoculars and telescopes for people to test.

Event organisers include Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, Red Rose Forest and Wigan Council. Peter Alker from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said "There will be something of interest for everyone."
