Teenager attacked

10:00am Thursday 26th January 2012

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a boy was attacked and robbed on Tyldesley's biggest housing estate as he went to meet a friend.

At around 7pm on Monday, January 16, the 17-year-old was walking along Merlewood Drive, off Astley Street, when he was approached from behind by a group of men.

One of the men struck him in the face, which caused him to fall to the floor where he was hit again.

They demanded his mobile phone, stole his headphones and ran off down Merlewood Drive.

The offenders are described as white men, aged between 17-19-years-old, all wearing dark clothing and hooded tops.

PC Steve Wooldridge said, "This was entirely unprovoked. Thankfully the victim was not badly injured, but he is understandably very shaken.

"There must have been people on their way home from work who may have witnessed the attack or saw a group of men matching the description.

"If you have any information which could help with our inquiries, please contact the police."

If you have information you should call the police on 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
