CASH and cigarettes were stolen in a robbery at an Atherton store.
Three men – one brandishing a hammer – walked into the Co-op store on Gadfield Grove and forced two terrified shop assistants to lie on the floor then emptied cigarettes into bed sheets and grabbed money from the tills.
They got away in a grey Ford Focus with the registration X668. The number plates had been stolen from the Leigh area the previous night.
The man with the hammer is described as 6ft tall, of medium build and spoke with a local accent.
All three men were wearing dark clothing, dark trainers and had their faces covered.
The raid happened at 9.25pm on Monday, January 23.
Detective Constable Gavin Cunliffe said: “This was a traumatic experience for the staff and I would appeal to anyone who saw these men leave the shop and get in the car to contact us as soon as possible.
“I would also ask members of the public who has been approached by people selling cigarettes or anyone who has information about the number plates being stolen to get in touch.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 295/252 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
