Life on file at Atherton's pit village church

NOSTALGIA will rule in Howe Bridge next week when old friends have the chance to meet-up and delve into the past.

Between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, February 11 it's open day at St Michael's Church, alongside Leigh Road, when church and school archives will be displayed including photographs and files relating to many aspects of village life.

Original Church baptism, confirmation and marriage registers will be available for study. Copies may be purchased but photography of the records is not permitted.

Historian Richard Sivill will be on hand to answer questions and will talk about vicars of the parish and will have copies of the Heritage DVD on sale Due to limited parking at church visitors are reminded there is a car park at the end of Bowling Green Row.

The event is open to everyone. Admission is free but donations are welcome for Howe Bridge Church Open Day Fund. A selection of hot and cold food and drinks will be available in the The Vestry Café.
