FIVE Atherton primary schools got together to play the increasingly popular target sport of New Age Kurling.
An adaptation of the the original curling game, it can be enjoyed by both able bodied and disabled people of all ages on any smooth, flat indoor surface.
Teams of four players from each school entered the challenge at St Michael's, Howe Bridge where PE leader and event organising Marjorie Evans is experienced in the sport.
In a close contest overall winners of the first APSA New Age Kurling festival were Chowbent Primary School much to the delight of coaches Adrian Bennett and Stephen Haynes.
Marjorie Evans said: "Kurling is an exciting sport, open to all abilities. We held the festival as part of APSA's commitment to the Get Set Network of schools supporting The Olympics and we hope will now be a regular festival on the APSA competition calendar."
Acting head at Parklee Ciommunity School Mark Grogan said: "I would personally like to that Mrs Evans and the staff from St. Michael's who kindly volunteered to host this festival, but I would also like to give a special mention to the children from St. Michael's who were at the event not as participants but as leaders of the festival.
"They stayed after school to help teams, did the scoring and helped with refreshments. They were a credit to the school."
Under consideration now is Key stage one New Age Kurling in the competitions calendar and a teachers' event.
