Bents fundraising record for Macmillan Cancer Support

Garden centre's charity record Garden centre's charity record

BENTS Garden & Home has enjoyed another fantastic year of fundraising raising £12,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Glazebury based garden centre celebrated the record breaking total for its 2011 charity with representatives from both Macmillan and its new charity of the year, Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Macmillan’s Area Fundraising Manager, Christine Hadfield joined Bents’ Managing Director, Matthew Bent for the official handover.

Mr Bent said: “We are delighted to be able to announce such an impressive total for Macmillan and must thank all our customers and colleagues who have once again helped make the campaign such a success. Macmillan does such a lot of great work to help improve the lives of those affected by cancer and the money we have raised will be used to provide vital services to people within the local area.

“We are now looking forward to working with Claire House Children’s Hospice and are keen to do just as well in 2012.”

Wirral based Claire House provides respite, medical, end of life and bereavement care for children and young people with life threatening or life limiting conditions and their families. Care is provided for over 300 families from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Isle of Man and West Lancashire with the cost of running the eight bedded hospice for one day totalling £6.5k. This year Bents has set an ambitious target of £13k which will help run the hospice for a full 48 hours.

Angella Rawsthorne, Senior Area Fundraiser for Claire House Children’s Hospice, said: “We are so lucky to be chosen as Bents’ Charity of the Year and everyone at Claire House is “blooming” delighted to have this popular garden centre on board.

“We have 14 families from the area that use Claire House, but with very little government funding, we rely on the generosity of individuals and companies such as Bents to give first class care to the children and young people the rely on our services.”
