Westleigh High is most improved school in Wigan

PERFORMANCE tables show that Westleigh High School is the most improved school in Wigan and the fourth most improved out of 251 high schools in Greater Manchester.

The school achieved 55% 5 A* - C’s, including English and Maths – the best in the history of the school, an increase of 19% from 2010 results.

Headteacher John Banks said: “We are all absolutely delighted for the students who have gained these excellent results. The students worked very hard to achieve these grades, and fully deserve the exciting futures ahead of them at college and university. It is evident that the strategies we put in place to remove barriers to learning has reaped the rewards and this year’s Year 11 cohort are predicted to do better.

"The success would not be possible without the support of our Parents the efforts of our genuine team of superb teachers and the students themselves.

"The three way partnership Students – Parents – Teachers is the key to Westleigh High School’s success story.”

Delighted Leigh MP Andy Burnham MP said: “It fills me with pride to see the incredible progress that has been made by Westleigh High School. I pay tribute to the Headteacher and all of his staff for their sheer dedication to the children and young people of our community. The whole town is proud of a school that is the most improved in the Borough and one of the most improved in Greater Manchester.

"These achievements by the children are outstanding and they are a credit to Leigh. The only thing I ask is ‘Keep up the good work!’ ”.

Councillor Susan Loudon – Councillor for Atherleigh Ward said: “Congratulations to Westleigh High School, students, staff and parents. Westleigh High School has, over the last few years, always produced good results and that is good for the school, for Leigh and for the Borough. But it is particularly good for the students who have worked very hard to achieve such excellent results. I would thank parents and the teaching staff for giving students the support that they need.”
