LEIGH is taking on Wigan in a mile-eating challenge as part of a Health Week programme of events at the towns' libraries.
Health Week runs from Monday, September 17 and Saturday, September 22 with loads of events planned including storytime sessions for under fives centred around dental health and being healthy, healthy eating cookery demonstrations and an exercise bike challenge between Leigh and Wigan Library to see which town can clock up the most miles during the week.
Organiser Wendy Heaton from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: “Many people visit libraries to access books and information on lots of health issues such as quitting smoking or dieting but this is a chance to speak to those professionals in person who can help you to achieve a happier, healthier lifestyle.”
Health Trainers from Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust will also be on hand to advise on weight loss, quitting smoking, how to eat more healthily and drinking sensibly.
Andi Sizer, Clinical Network Lead for Health and Wellbeing - Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this week of activities and information.
“It is a great opportunity for people to pop along for some simple advice and find out about the range of free services that Bridgewater offers to help local people improve their health and wellbeing."
Staff from WLCT’s Active Living service will also be on hand throughout the week promoting free health sessions taking place boroughwide.
