REVELLERS caused a bathroom blaze after they carelessly discarded a cigarette.
Firefighters were called to a house in Thirlmere Road, Hindley, at 3.50am this morning after the blaze broke out.
The seven young people, including a 19-year-old girl, two men aged 25, two men aged 28 and a 32-year-old man, were in bed when the fire started.
The house did not have a smoke alarm but the group of revellers were woken when the upstairs of the house became logged with smoke from a burning plastic rubber duck.
They managed to flee the house after dousing the flames with pans of water and two of them had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters also fitted smoke alarms to the property.
Watch manager Pete Johnson said: “These young people were extremely lucky that this did not result in a fatality, which, because of the lack of a smoke alarm, it really could’ve done.
“We would strongly advise people to regularly maintain their smoke alarms as they can easily be life-savers.”
