The owner of a cat which suffered horrendous facial injuries after being shot with a pellet gun has offered a £1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever is responsible.
'Oscar' had been let out for the night from an address on Fern Close, Atherton, at around 10.30pm on Monday, May 19. The cat was called back in at 11.45pm but he did not return.
He was found at around 7.30am the following day suffering from a shattered eyeball.
He was treated by a vet and is recovering at home.
Police Sergeant John Connor from the Atherton Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This was a callous and cowardly act on a defenceless animal.
"The cat suffered horrendous injuries and was fortunate not to be killed.
"Oscar's owner has been so shocked by this incident she is prepared to offer a reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever is responsible.
"I would appeal to anyone who knows who may be responsible, or who has any information about this incident, to contact police."
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Atherton Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0161 856 7319 or Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050.
