Rail travel problems for Challenge Cup Final fans

4:13pm Thursday 28th August 2008

Virgin Trains will not be travelling through Nuneaton and Rugby on the route to the capital due to major improvement work on the West Coast Main Line, closing many sections of the line.

A spokesman for Virgin Trains said: “Journey times will be considerably extended. There is no guarantee anyone travelling to Euston will get to London in time for the match.”

Alternative rail routes operated by other companies are available to and from St Pancras International with East Midlands Trains, Marylebone with Chiltern Railways, and Paddington via Reading with First Great Western and CrossCountry.

The only Virgin Trains serving London Euston will be shuttle services from and to Birmingham International by an alternative, longer, route.

These trains will have limited capacity and fans are recommended to make other travel arrangements.
