GOLBORNE High School has been awarded International School Award status - one of only a few schools in the North West to have the honour.

Months of hard work went into getting the award; students having created a project which includes international activities they have taken art in over the last year.

These include an exchange with students from IES Salvador Ruada in Spain, where the children lived with Spanish families on a two-week British Council run project. They attended local schools and socialised with their Spanish counterparts.

In April a group went to visit Normandy on a joint French and History trip. They visited St Malo, the war cemeteries and also Memorial Caen war museum.

Other activites have included letter writing to Japanese, Hungarian, French and Spanish schools, an Olympic-themed sports day, an international week and "e-twinning". They also support Parklands Nursery School in Zambia.

Staff have taken part in TIPD (Teacher International Professional Development), visiting Hungary and India, and the students have visited numerous places such as the Chinese Embassy in Manchester, and a local Spanish restaurant.

A representative from the school will be going to London in October to collect the award which will be presented by newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald.
