•I PLUMPED for a little run about when it came time to change my aging car for a new model.

Now when I go to fill up and see the prices motorists in bigger vehicles are paying at the petrol pumps I’m glad I did. Being a careful sort it would break my heart to cough up £60 for juice - and with no signs of prices falling it could go higher. As a result I thought I’d pass on some petrol saving tips sent in by reader Robin Seddon. They came off the net of course, but it’s worth giving them a go if they can help give maximum value for money. 1 Buy or fill up in the morning when the ground temperature is still cold 2 Fill up when the tank is still half full to minimize evaporation 3 Don’t fill up if there is a fuel tanker filling the storage tanks because dirt which settled at the bottom could be stirred up. Could be codswollop but nothing ventured nothing gained.
