Colts close in on league title

Oldershaw U19 0 Tyldesley U19 27

TYLDESLEY are within touching distance of the league title.

They have moved five points clear of reigning Raging Bull North West Senior Colts League E champions Oldershaw after beating the second-placed Wirral outfit on their own turf on Sunday.

Bongs delivered a solid team performance against very good opposition.

Both sides played superbly, keeping those who were watching entertained from start to finish.

Solid defence by both teams repelled many attacks but Tyldesly held the edge in scoring prowess.

Matthew Guest and Nathan Rushton were stand-out performers but the tries came from Jack Weaver, Tom Lloyd, Deacon Monks and Matthew Unsworth, while two conversions and a penalty were added by Andrew Ball.

Tyldesley scored their first points in the 12th minute after strong and consistent pressure was rewarded with Ball’s solitary penalty.

With the half entering the last ten minutes, Tyldesley moved up a gear.

A great line-out throw from Norton and catch from Mennell allowed Tyldesley to drive over from 15 metres, with Weaver touching down.

Straight from the restart Tyldesley recorded a fantastic second try.

Rushton set the play superbly, with Ball moving the ball out and Lloyd breaking from inside his own half.

Unsworth took it on and then returned the ball for the supporting Lloyd to cross.

With a minute of the half remaining, more great hands allowed the visitors to score another superb but unconverted try.

Unsworth, Hargreaves, Norton and Guest linked well for Monks to show great strength and go over despite the attention of three defenders and the touchline only inches away.

It put Bongs 20-0 ahead at the break.

Oldershaw lifted the pace but Tyldesley stood firm, led superbly by Guest at full back, Coyne, Weaver, Legge, Chahboune, Hargreaves, Monks, Prendergast and Ball, who all pulled off some brilliant tackles.

With the game entering the last five minutes and Oldershaw on top, Rushton pulled off a great tackle that dislodged the ball.

Unsworth kicked on and chased, just beating Legge for the touch down to cap off a fantastic team performance.
