Colts ready for national stage

LEIGH colts team are hoping to prosper in the Rugby Football Union’s national under 17s competition from February.

The table toppers are unbeaten so far this season in the Raging Bull North West Colts League with 11 wins from 11 matches, scoring 335 points with only 104 conceded in the process.

Leigh RUFC chairman Derek Leake said: “With under 17s being the only age group at which the RFU run a national competition, this season is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the players to show what they can do on the national stage.

“They have proved themselves to be the best team in their league which includes teams from Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria and have played some great rugby at times.

“They are well aware, however, that to succeed at a national level they will have to train and play harder. With the coaching and backroom staff that is in place I’m confident they will do well.”
