Bongs put out a strong side but are held by Ashton

Tyldesley  10 Ashton on Mersey 10

FIELDING their strongest team for many weeks, Tyldesley struggled to find any rhythm despite controlling territory and possession.

They ended up scraping a draw from the jaws of defeat.

The cold, wet conditions did not help play but too many mistakes from both sides resulted in no scoring during the opening stanza.

The second half was a mirror image of the first with Bongs dominating possession and territory but when a pass was not held close to the Ashton posts the visitors went the length of the field for a seven-point lead.

Although fly half Ashley Worsfold bridged the gap with a penalty his opposite number extended the lead back to seven with a penalty of his own.

It was looking pretty dire for Tyldesley until one last effort from the pack led to Craig Pulman crashing over with three minutes left and Worsfold coolly converted.

Substantial improvement is a must when Bongs visit New Brighton on Saturday.
