Long run finishes

Vale of Lune RUFC 26 Leigh RUFC 20

LEIGH lost their long unbeaten run but as well as a losing bonus point they won great praise from coaches and spectators for an excellent performance against title-chasing Vale.

The Vale backs tore Leigh apart in the opening 10 minutes as a 17-0 lead was assembled.

Just as Leigh looked ready for the slaughter, the fight back started.

Elliot Ryan kicked a simple penalty and scrum half David Wood sold a dummy to score by the posts.

Leigh then produced the try of the game, when Wood and Peter Ince combined superbly from a line-out to send Calvin Crompton between the posts for a converted try which levelled the match.

Leigh began the second period as they had ended the first, but the home side began their own recovery.

After a penalty to each side, the Leigh defence held firm as Vale dominated the territory battle but were undone by two late penalties.
