Smith's rocket smashes house window
7:57pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in Sport
Chadderton 0 Atherton Collieries 2
SATURDAY’S success against Chadderton was their first at Andrew Street since 1997.
Colls’ victory was confirmed in the 89th minute from their first corner in the match.
The ball in from Brad Cooke went over the head of striker-cum-goalkeeper Niall Sultan and Paul Atherton was on hand at the far post for the simplest of tap-ins.
Atherton netted the first too.
Sultan made a poor clearance and the ball fell to Atherton 40 yards out.
With the Chadderton keeper miles off his line, Atherton hit the ball goalwards. The back-pedalling Sultan got a hand to it but he could do no more than deflect the ball into the roof of the net.
Atherton also had a second-half goal ruled out for offside.
The award for the most powerful shot of the afternoon went to Danny Smith.
His rocket barely cleared the crossbar but had no problems making it between the trees and straight through the window of a nearby house!
Had it been on target, it would probably have taken the goal with it!
Three days earlier, Colls drew 1-1 at North West Counties Football League Division One table toppers AFC Darwen.
Colls were dominant in the first half but missed numerous chances.
Smith scored with a fine free kick to equalise.
Colls host Leek CSOB this Saturday, kick off 3pm.
