Scoreless draw no surprise
Atherton Collieries 0 Leek CSOB 0
COLLS had defeated Leek on the opening day of the season in the midst of a thunderstorm. There was to be no such excitement in this game.
Very little can be said about the first half, which seemed to pass off peacefully and without incident, in spite of the home side being in control of possession.
There was no sense of urgency from either side.
A football match did threaten to break out in the second half, but this threat was never really backed up.
The visitors did have to clear the ball off the line in the 67th minute, but with so many players on the line, this was an inevitability.
Six minutes later, Paul Atherton fired a shot, but it was straight at Lewis Rhodes in the Leek goal.
As the second half wore on it became clear that the game was going to end in a no score draw and the lack of clear cut chances only served to prove this.
The visitors have had more 0-0 draws than most this season, so it didn't exactly come as a shock when the referee blew for full time without a goal having been scored.
