LEIGH again struggled to match previous high performance levels against a competitive Kirkby outfit.

On a difficult day injuries continued to mount with a serious bicep problem for key flanker Chris Morgan.

Leigh started well and were looking confident when flanker Peter Ince made the running for centre Ross Shepherd to open the scoring.

The home side however could not maintain this early momentum, and were let down by poor ball retention when in good field position.

The rest of the half was frustrating for Leigh as they could not register a second score.

The second period started well when David Wood charged down a clearing kick, and Anthony Bentham scored.

From this point onwards Kirkby were to have much more of the game.

The visitors had a simple but effective game plan, to keep the play in the forwards.

They were rewarded with a penalty, which fired their enthusiasm.

They ground away at the normally secure Leigh defence, and were rewarded with a converted try with ten minutes remaining, to level the score.

Leigh now sensed a shock defeat, and tried to up the intensity, but were again undone by poor execution when going forward. Thus neither side was able to push for the winning score, and the spoils were shared.

Leigh need to get some of their injured men back on the paddock, and look to improve their ball control, through reducing the error count. As always with Leigh the effort could not be faulted.
