LEIGH Cricket Club’s Rachel Downs and Ellen Bradshaw have been selected in the Lancashire under 11s girls’ squad.

They were nominated for trials over the winter period.

The Leigh Lionesses were formed last year and under the guidance of Karen Brereton, Colin Crabb, Vicki Ainscough and Emma Seddon, the girls performed well in their first season. Leigh hope to develop more girls into Lancashire players in the future. Meanwhile, Tasmanian Hamish Kingston will be back in Leigh’s first XI this season.

Kingston was at Beech Walk in 2011 and returns to the club hoping to translate his form in grade cricket in Australia into good performances in the Liverpool Competition Premier League.

Leigh skipper Mattie McKiernan said he had been looking for a player to open the bowling and bat in the middle order and Kingston fitted the bill on both counts.
