Hilton Park pick up first win of the season

SPURRED on by Gareth Pemberton’s man of the match performance, Hilton Park picked up their first win of the North West Men’s Division Two season against hosts Eccleston Lions.

Park’s resilience was tested early, as they conceded two quick tries off the back of ill-discipline and sloppy defence.

Shaun Whiteside helped them get back on terms, breaking through the home defence to send Gary Fitzmartin scampering over for the first of his three tries.

Stretching Eccleston’s defence with big runs from forwards Craig Wingfield, Carl Mort, Shaun Whiteside and Shaun Pullman, Park added further tries through Mike Fernay, Lee Pugsley and Dale Allred, who also kicked three goals for a 30-16 final score.

Hilton will hope to build on this strong performance when they host St Helens Wildboars on Saturday, kick off 3.20pm.
