Dream start goes on as Colls win again

ATHERTON Colls made it 10 points from a possible 12 to continue a dream start to their North West Counties Division One campaign this week.
After an opening-day victory against Irlam, Colls beat Northwich Flixton Villa on Wednesday, drew at Holker OB on Saturday and edged out Nelson on Monday night.
Colls’ fixture at Holker started in familiar fashion, a sixth penalty in three games, as Gareth Peet was impeded only for Oliver Bell to save his spot kick.
However, Mark Truffas was on hand to convert the rebound with a diving header.
The visitors’ lead lasted just seven minutes as Brad Hubbold out-jumped his marker to head into the far corner.
Brad Cooke was dispossessed when through on goal, before Paul Atherton collected his first goal of the campaign following a clever ball from Robert Swanton.
Colls’ lead was undone on 70 minutes as James Pattinson levelled for the hosts with a long range effort that left stopper Joe Brobbin no chance.
Charlie Stoker’s volley threatened and Peet was again denied by Bell as Holker held on for a point.
Colls had collected three points the previous Wednesday when they hit five at Northwich Flixton Villa.
Truffas opened the scoring for the visitors on four minutes with a Roberto Carlos-style free kick bending beyond the wall and leaving Scott Ludford stranded in the Northwich net.
Another deadball saw Colls double their lead on 16 minutes, Peet this time sailing a retaken free kick over the wall and into the top corner.
Peet added his second from the spot on the half hour, before the Colls defence was breached by a ball over the top and Callum McGlyn pulled one back for Villa.
Peet added his hat-trick with a second spot kick to restore Colls’ three-goal advantage, before Stoker struck to give the visitors a convincing lead at the break.
The hosts improved after the interval and Gary Dalrymple’s hopeful effort reduced the deficit on 51 minutes.
Colls kick off their FA Cup campaign with a trip to Alsager Town on Saturday, before a trip to Daisy Hill on Tuesday.
