Rovers happy to return to LSV
7:00am Monday 26th August 2013 in Sport
LEIGH is set to host some of the most exciting talent in English football this campaign as Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers’ under 21s return to Sports Village.
The restructuring of the Barclays under 21s Premier League means the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and both Manchester giants will feature against Rovers.
The former Premier League champions’ new under 21s boss, Eric Kinder, is delighted to have his side returning to Leigh.
“This is a magnificent place to come and play football and it gives the players a real sense of what a match day entails,” he said.
“This is not training ground stuff – we will be telling our players they are expected to perform to a high standard, in a proper stadium, in front of what we imagine to be huge crowds – especially when the Manchester clubs come to town.
“We’re very much looking forward to measuring ourselves against the very best at Leigh Sports Village.”
On August 30, Blackburn will entertain Arsenal’s famed youth set up in the season opener, with Manchester United making the short trip along the A580 on December 2.
Reigning FA Youth Cup holders Norwich City visit on January 20, with Spurs travelling to Leigh Sports Village on February 10 and Manchester City’s expensively-assembled squad arriving on March 24.
Rovers will also face Stoke on September 16, Middlesbrough on December 16 and Wolves on April 7 next year. Tickets are £4 Adults and £2 concessions – Blackburn season ticket holders go free. All kick-offs are 7pm.
