HINDSFORD leapt to the Manchester League Premier Division summit with victory over AFC Monton at Squires Lane in midweek.
Rico Colulo’s double gave the hosts a two-goal lead before Monton clawed one back from the spot.
The Tonics made several changes following victory at Wythenshawe Town, with Louis Price at left back, Mark Chilton making his first appearance of the season and Josh Messer his debut in a three-man midfield.
Monton dominated possession in the early stages, competently spraying the ball around and searching for an opening.
However, the hosts soon found their way back into the game as Jack Valentine drove a shot over the bar from Ryan Briody’s cutback.
Minutes later Briody lofted a shot over from the edge of the area and Colulo sealed a frantic spell of chances with a left footed shot that also cleared the crossbar.
Briody was looking dangerous after the break, but it took until the 70th minute for one of his runs to lead to a goal.
The winger’s cross was met by Valentine on the edge of the area and directed into the path of the oncoming Colulo.
From 35 yards Colulo attempted a speculative effort on the volley and watched his strike sail past the outstretched Monton stopper to open the scoring.
The Tonics made sure of their win 10 minutes later, Colulo smashing through a crowded box to double the hosts’ lead.
Matt Ince was denied a clean sheet as Monton added a late consolation from the spot.
