Colls suffer a double national knockout blow
6:00am Saturday 14th September 2013 in Sport
COLLS’ national cup hopes were dashed as defeats to Radcliffe Borough and Stockport Sports saw them crash out of the FA Cup and FA Vase this week.
Evo-Stik opponents Radcliffe forced a draw at Alder House in the FA Cup, but progressed into the first qualifying round with a replay win.
Paul Atherton put the visitors ahead after 30 minutes, but Radcliffe were level moments later as their defender bundled into the net from close range.
Mark Truffas rattled the bar and Jonah O’Reilly went close, but Chris Thompson fired past Joe Brobbin to win the tie for Radcliffe on the hour.
Stockport proved far too strong for Colls in the Vase as they hit five on their home 3G surface, scoring twice before the break before completing the rout after half-time.
Colls return to league action on Saturday when they welcome Eccleshall to Alder House.
