Keeper Connor is handed an England call-up

A BEDFORD High School pupil’s safe pair of hands has earned him the chance to take his place between the sticks in a Three Lions shirt.
Connor King, from Leigh, has joined the England under 16s squad for their upcoming fixture against Wales after catching the Football Association’s eye for Burnley.
The six-foot tall 14-year-old will join the squad at St George’s Park in Stafford ahead of the game tonight, Friday, at Kidderminster’s Aggborough Stadium.
“I couldn’t believe it at first, but now I’m really excited. I can’t wait for the match,” he said.
“It should be a good game and I’ll be giving it my best. I’m the youngest player in the team and it’s up to me to keep a clean sheet.
“There’s a lot of pressure, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
England’s Victory Shield campaign opener will be shown live on Sky Sports at 7.35pm.
“I started by playing outfield, but quickly realised that I was good at goalkeeping.
“I want to take my football as far as I can.”
“I’ve been given loads of support from Bedford. It’s a great place and I think everyone here will be behind me on the night.”
Bedford High School head of PE Mick Thompson said: “It has to be every schoolboy’s dream to play for their country and we’re really proud of Connor.”
