Pollitt pips rival in last race to retain title
2:03pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Sport
ASTLEY and Tyldesley enjoyed an exciting day of racing at their Club Individual Championships at Gin Pit.
The senior match turned into a battle between defending champion Reece Pollitt and Danny Hughes.
Hughes took first blood only for positions to be reversed next time out, leaving the club individual title hinging on the last race.
Pollitt started in the unfavourable outside position, but pulled out a superb start to clear the field into the first bend and retain his title with Hughes runner-up.
The championship was split into senior and junior groups to cater for the varied age range of riders.
Max Evans finished on 19 points to force a run-off for first place, eventually taking the win with Alex Semtyshin runner-up.
Matt Snell finished third overall, but took first place in the under 10s category.
Ben Dickinson and newcomer CJ Darby both rode hard for their 16 points, with John White’s terrific performance scoring 15 and taking first place in the under eight category.
George Hughes won the veterans category, Roy Heslop was runner-up and Ron Makin third.
A&T stage their final meeting of the season on Sunday, the fourth round of the A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix series, with registrations at 1.30 pm and first race at 2 pm.
