LEIGH Miners Rangers could not follow up their Conference Cup final triumph a week previous as Wigan St Pats came out victorious in the league clash on Saturday.
Danny Jackson, Andrew Groves and Lee Gittins gave Miners a half-time lead, but Pats boosted their top-six hopes with an impressive performance after the break.
Six days on from the cup final showdown, Miners continued where they had left off with tries for Jackson and Groves following good work by Scott O’Brien, Jonny Youds and Adam Thomason. Pats struck back when Anthony Griffiths’ bomb was spilled and Jayden Sandford put John McCoy over for a try converted by Brad Smith.
Griffiths then went in at the posts, but Miners were narrowly ahead at the break when Gittins stepped inside his marker and touched down, Youds goaling.
Tom Atherton made good yards for Pats to find Ryan Smith, who in turn fed Brad Hargreaves to score, before Tony Suffolk guaranteed their win.
Miners, who gave first team debuts to Declan Flannery and Jason Unsworth, host Myton in their final home game of the campaign on Saturday, 2.30pm.
