A SUCCESSFUL season for Astley and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club was topped off by the receipt of a grant for more than £3,000 this week.
The club were awarded the grant of £3,830 from Wigan Council's Small Grants Awards to help towards purchasing bikes, helmets, gloves, coaching and first aid courses ahead of next season.
The club has increased its membership to a record 75 riders over the past 12 months, recording the fourth highest number of under 18 recruits from all the cycling clubs in the UK during the summer.
This led to the club receiving a British Cycling Go-Ride racing jersey, signed by the Great Britain women's cycling team, along with a coaching bursary worth £150.
On the track, the club recorded plenty of good results with pride of place going to the Astley and Tyldesley under 12s team, who took the Northern League Division Three title after winning every league match they competed in.
