Charlie Tonga believes in the preparation....and the Big Man upstairs!
7:00am Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Sport
A QUESTION and answer session with Tonga coach Charlie Tonga ahead of tonight's clash with Scotland. That will be followed by a battle with Cook Islands at Leigh Sports Village on November 5.
Did you learn anything from the weekend’s games?
Something from all of them, yes. New Zealand looked really good in places, England had their moments, Papua New Guinea were unlucky and obviously we had a good look at Italy as we play them. I thought they were pretty good to be honest.
What kind of game do you think it might be tonight?
Well, we have to wait and see what the weather’s going to be like first! But we know first of all that it’ll be a battle: Scotland will want to compete as much as we do.
So as kick off looms, what will you be saying to the players making their World Cup debuts for Tonga?
Probably that this opportunity to represent your country doesn’t come around often, and that they should really seize the moment. I’m sure they will.
And it’s your first World Cup game as a coach too. How are you feeling?
I think I’ll probably be quite emotional as it gets closer. Nervous, too. But I have to believe in the preparation we’ve done, the systems we’ve put in place… and the Big Man upstairs!
