ATHERTON Collieries played 45 minutes of their North West Counties League Challenge Cup encounter with Bacup & Rossendale on Saturday before the tie was abandoned.
They led 2-1 at the break, when the referee blew the final whistle following an altercation in the tunnel.
In a statement, the league officials said they would wait to read the match official’s report before deciding what happens next.
Bacup ought to have scored first inside two minutes; Lee Oldham won the ball after a Jonah O’Reily missed his kick, but goalkeeper Joe Brobbin saved the forward’s weak effort.
Colls lead after half an hour when Gareth Peet’s dribble down the left ended with him cutting inside a back-marker before firing in.
Bacup drew level when Daniel Cocks lobbed the ball over Brobbin, but Colls edged ahead for a second time when Brad Cooke shot past the goalkeeper after Jake Patton flicked on.
They visit Formby this Saturday in the Division One Trophy.
